1971

20th Sheffield Scouts Diamond Jubilee (1911 – 1971).

Cub Leader Alan Smith passes away and is greatly missed.  Scrap Drive raises £872.18 for cottage roof (may refer to the Den next to the Scout Room). C pack win Map Reader competition.  Jubilee dinner in the Parish Hall.  Group Service in the church followed by pea and pie supper and birthday cake in the Parish Hall.  Leaders and parents spend many hours levelling the grass area behind the Scout Room.

1972

Sir William Gladstone

Sir William Gladstone (1925 - 2018) named Chief Scout of the United Kingdom and Overseas Territories.

Vernon Haw and John Whiteway join the Group.  A Pack win District Athletes Competition. C Pack win Map Reading and First Aid.  Family Ramble was from Bakewell to Lathkill Dale.

Thursday Scouts started by Vernon Haw.  B pack win Swimming Gala, C pack win Football Competition.   Six new Icelandic tents purchased.  Swimming club moves to Hurlfield.  Cub Camp held at Castleton.

1976

A garage is collected from Darnall and erected at the back of the Scout Room.  Church ban ball games on the back.  Cub Day held at Hesley Wood. Fundraising dance held in the Parish Hall. Scouts begin making canoes.


1977

HM Queen’s Silver Jubilee (1952 - 1977).

Scouts attend Hilsborough park event manning a stall demonstrating how to make canoes and see the Queen.

A tree is planted in the church yard by the youngest cub, Duncan Syme attended by Rev John Collie, Jim Buckley and the whole group.

Thursday Scouts camp in Wales.

Jubilee Gang Show held at the Parish Hall, produced by Betty Watson. The photo below shows the All Saint’s Sweeties choreographed by Sally Morely.

Reg Lilley joins the Group as a Cub Leader. Scouts camp in Isle of Man - Brain Coates flies out with spare tent pole!


1979

Group Dinner held at Hassop Hall. Scout camp in Bude.


1981

20th Sheffield Scouts Platinum Jubilee (1911 - 1981).

Summer Camp is held in Wales, Llangoed Castle.

Major-General Michael J. H. Walsh (1927 - 2015) named Chief Scout of the United Kingdom and Overseas Territories.


1983

Scouts hold a Shoe Shine in the Hole In The Road and appear on Radio Sheffield.

 

1984

Scouts begin several years of fundraising by delivering Christmas post.


1985

Scouts appear on BBC Breakfast television as part of Scout Job Week and continue to support the Church Garden Party on the hot dog stall.

Beavers started by Nadine Lilley and Judy McMurray.


1986
