Volunteer with 20th Sheffield
Our ‘everyday adventure’ for young people is possible thanks to our adult volunteers, who support Scouts in a wide range of roles.
What do volunteers do?
Our Volunteers support Scouts in a wide range of roles, including working directly with young people, helping to manage a Group, or being a charity Trustee. We help volunteers to get the most out of their experiences at Scouts by providing opportunities for adventure, training, fun and friendship. Our award-winning training scheme for volunteers ensures that adults get as much from Scouts as young people. Our approach focuses on what you want to get out of volunteering with Scouts, whilst respecting how much time you can offer. Over 90% of Scout volunteers say that their skills and experiences have been useful in their work or personal life.
I don’t feel I have any suitable skills - how can I get involved?
Parents can volunteer and help in many ways; you don’t have to be Bear Grylls!
You might have first aid knowledge that you could teach the group, or you might be able to teach our Scouts a thing or two about DIY. If you’re good with accounts you could be Group treasurer, or if you’re a culinary whizz you could run cooking sessions with the young people. Everyone has a skill (whether you know it or not) and we can make use of it. There's no pressure to continue as a helper or leader afterwards, but hopefully we'll be able to inspire you by showing how easy and rewarding it can be to volunteer with Scouts.
If you do feel like getting involved, there are a number of options:
Be a Leader: Running a Section has a regular weekly commitment and is responsible for the successful delivery of great Scouting to our young people.
Become an Executive Member: Our Group is managed and operated by our executive committee who over see the finances, fund raising and other aspects of our operation. Typically they meet 3 times a year and help organise many events during the year.
Occasional Helper: Be available to a Section to call on if required - maybe you can only help at one meeting a month - if so, this position is for you.
Active Support Member: We have an Active Support unit attached to the Group, the members of which are made up of parents and supporters of the group who cannot offer a regular commitment, but might be able to help run an activity or help at an event now and again. Read more about Active Support >
